Some Extensions of the Game of Blackjack

Once you have mastered the basics of how to play Blackjack, there are some different ways to bet and maneuver the game to make it more interesting and hopefully more profitable for you.

You can split your hand if you are dealt two of the same cards. You have to match your initial bet and then you can play both hands separately.

If you think that your hand will be won with just one more card you can double down. You need to put down your bet again, doubling it. Then you are dealt just one more card. The dealer plays to himself until he reaches 17, 21, or busts.

You can also take out insurance if you are worried about losing your bet. This is done when the dealer's face up card is an Ace. You can take out insurance for half the amount of your original bet that the dealer's face down card is a face card.

You can also take even money if you have a Blackjack and the dealer has a face up Ace. This will pay one to one if you are correct. This prevents you from having a tie.
